Unlocking Podcasting Success: A Journey with Entrepreneurs and Girl Dads

The art of podcasting has become well-known over the past couple of years. The art of plugging in a microphone or logging onto a Zoom call became a key in marketing or building a brand. The art of communicating skills, knowledge, or stories in a captivating way to bring listeners back and hit that very valuable “Subscribe” button. This art is something that is sought after. And that art can be obtained!

COVID Boredom Leads to New Interests…

During the 2020 pandemic, I was working a remote job that quite frankly was not for me. I was seeking to escape the industry that I was in, but never tried to obtain skills that would get me hired in Corporate America or other industries.

During this period in history, TikTok was going crazy. Instagram was already going crazy. And Facebook was becoming for old people. But one thing always stayed the same for me… It was a dream to get cast on one of two of my favorite Reality TV Shows, Survivor or Big Brother. If you have ever seen these shows, the one thing that sticks out is the contestants' ability to talk to a camera with no hesitation and full personality.

So wait… the Art of Podcasting?!

Exactly! That is the exact moment that I picked up and plugged in a microphone to start three years of podcasting. But not just podcasting, understanding, and studying the art of podcasting. There is so much that goes into a podcast that many do not realize. And I wanted to understand it all, no matter if I ever hit that One Millionth Subscriber or not. It was my College Degree or “piece of paper” that I never achieved that I strived to achieve.

I went on to host an Adult Comedy Podcast for about three years. The show talked about everything and anything with all sorts of guests; from musicians, random TikTok girls, old coworkers (now friends), graffiti artists, and many more. This podcast from the very first episode with a $5 microphone to a Podcasting Studio that cost as much as Nashville, Tennessee rent grew in quality and the art of podcasting with every episode. And that was the goal! At the end of the three years, I discontinued the podcast because my heart was more with growing in videographer and video editing than podcasting.

But those three years were NEVER wasted. Because of those three years of hosting, creating, studying, and building a podcast, I could help others. I could now showcase that I have the experience and knowledge to build their podcasts to new heights.

That is why Gavin (Bison) Videos has Podcasting Packages…

Starting a business, you tend to try to find clients in ANY way you can. If they come from cold calls, emailing, social media, or for me… it was Upwork. Upwork is a website for Freelancers to go and apply for jobs in their fields to potentially get hired. Through Upwork, I have met some incredible people from the United States who trusted me to provide them with Podcasting services. And have become some of my longest clients to date at Gavin (Bison) Videos and help me understand how to package deals together. The two clients have podcasts that are laid out in completely different ways and topics, but both bring significant value to the listeners and subscribers.

For The Dads… The Girl Dads United Podcast!

The Girl Dads United Podcast is exactly what it sounds like… a group of Dads that have a bunch of girls running around their homes and just trying to figure it out. Monty, Griffin, and Brent are exactly that. These three Girl Dads sit down to discuss recent struggles, hot parenting topics, or just hilarious things that take place in the households.

I picked them up as a client at the start of Season Two of the podcast. They had no idea what they were doing but wanted to do more because of all the positive reviews from Season One. (They would tell you the same!) I stepped in at the beginning of switching from purely audio version only, to audio and video versions available. This step provided challenges that they needed help with, but knew to grow more they had to.

But those challenges were then pushed onto me, as they hired my services to help them grow. I accepted instantly, and went to work! Monty, Griffin, and Brent record the podcast episodes on a 4K Webcam and an Amazon Microphone; which is perfect and fits their branding! But the question was…

How do you captivate the audience with ONLY one Webcam?!

The BIGGEST issue and battle to overcome. Why? Because no one is going to sit and watch a video on YouTube or any platform that is just a Webcam with people talking for an extended period. NO ONE! I have to crop and cut throughout the episode variations of the three hosts to make it more eye-catching. Or giving it the feel that there are more cameras than the one that is sitting on the chair or table five feet away.

Branding was another issue that had to be overcome, as well. When a new brand or company is starting they usually only have a Logo and possibly colors picked out. But as for anything but that… good luck! That is exactly what Girl Dads United Podcast had. When it came to editing Reels/Shorts for Social Media, and designing Zoom layouts, graphics, or thumbnails, I had to dive into my creative brain to see what would fit the brand that is… Girl Dads. Luckily for me, they loved everything that I provided and the risks that I took.

Okay… But What Has Your Videos Done?!

Monty, Griffin, and Brent pay for an edited Video and Audio Podcast episode with five reels/shorts per episode. Timestamps are sometimes given to what piece of content they want for socials, and sometimes it is on my best judgment. No matter which one, the Reels/Shorts have been a HUGE success on Instagram, which has led to more listeners and subscribers. The views on those videos have ranged from 103K to 3K. This was HUGE for them! Halfway through Season Two, they had to do an episode answering random questions because of so many new followers on Socials and subscribers.

Season Two of Girl Dads United Podcast came to an end with momentum for the Podcast but also in life. Griffin AND Brent welcomed another child into their families and took time away from podcasting to get settled. But watching the final episode of Season Two, I saw and heard the passion to keep going and see what achievement can be hit next for this podcast and brand that many can relate to.

For Entrepreneurs… The Pursuit of Better with Jordan Simon!

The Pursuit of Better with Jordan Simon is a podcast that interviews entrepreneurs and other professionals from all over the United States and the world. This podcast is aimed at anyone and everyone who wants to understand the whys, hows, or story behind how that entrepreneur/professional got to where they are. Jordan asks hard-hitting and very insightful questions that bring the most out of all the guests. He also takes risks in bringing on guests that will potentially bring strikes to his YouTube channel or Social accounts due to the message or things discussed. But as a person who loves to study and edit podcasts… that is what makes this client so much fun!

Jordan hired my services after his last editor graduated from college and took a full-time job; so they could no longer help. That is where I entered the picture. Jordan used Zoom to record all of his podcasts. The prior editor gave an amazing branded template for the long-form podcast videos, which I never changed!

Where is the Challenge then?!

There was no true branding of where the content was coming from or it was a part of a podcast. Jordan and the prior editor were trying to capture/replicate the Alex Hormozi style of short-form video. That style has lots of high-quality B-Roll and motion graphics that keep the viewers captivated. I love this style, but knew that B-roll was going to be hard to find for the types of conversations that were being had on this type of podcast. For example, typing in Mental Health in a B-Roll search engine gets you videos of drug addicts and alcoholics. That was never the topic or situation that was being discussed on the podcasts.

During the first few months of working with Jordan, I steadied the ship with the Reels/Shorts when it related to the B-Roll and backdrop for the on-screen subtitles. The prior editor used a variety of different stuff that never screamed the podcast branding. This raised the question and brought the conversation forward…

“Can you rebrand the Reels/Shorts that relate back to the podcast branding?”

“....YES!”

That is exactly what I did! Took all the branded colors, logos, and examples of what other types of styles Jordan liked to build a layout he was proud of. But more importantly, people now knew they were viewing clips from the Pursuit of Better Podcast. Since switching over to the new style, the videos are getting MORE views on all Social Channels and people are hitting that subscribe button when offered. This was what Jordan and I wanted because change is not easy, especially when the Hormozi style is so well talked about.

That is the Why!!

People ask… “Why do you offer podcast services but not host a podcast?”

Or ask… “What have you done in the podcast space?”

I responded… “Read above or contact these people.”

Both of these clients have loved the insight or services that I have provided for them in their Podcast journey. But they have benefited greatly because of it. Do they have ONE MILLION subscribers? No. Is that the GOAL? Absolutely. But if you are only in podcasting to become rich, you are doing it wrong. Podcasting is truly the best instrument to help market and build brands due to its unlimited content potential and the fun conversations that occur. Both of these clients are seeing that and experiencing that which makes it a BLAST to work with them!
